I have a strong commitment to fairness and to equal opportunities for all and I strive for a high standard of personal and professional excellence in all that I do and I expect this of others. Throughout my career, I have always been driven to ensure that I can make a difference for those people who, when at their most vulnerable, need services to be safe, responsive and person-centred. I am passionate about the rights of people to expect the very best from services, where their wishes and choices are valued and supported to give them independence, choice and self-determination about their lives despite any limitations caused by compromised mental capacity, disability, frailty or illness.
I have over 30 years’ experience within learning disability nursing, the field of adult social care and the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW), overseeing the inspection of adult and children’s regulated services including the review and evaluation of local authority social services. I have a particular interest in adult safeguarding and was part of the founding editorial group that developed the Wales policy still currently being used to guide and support core agency practice in the management of adult safeguarding arrangements. I am passionate about professional practice standards and am proud to be a professional panel member for the Care Council for Wales on their registration, investigation and fitness to practise committees.
