Specialist areas:

  • Strategy, legislation and policy development
  • Adult social services
  • Older people and ageing society

I am passionately committed to making a difference to services for vulnerable and frail people in the community and in care homes. I have a particular interest in support for older people and how they can be given voice, choice and control to retain independence, whatever their circumstances.

I have a background as a career civil servant in Welsh Government and Welsh Office covering 39 years. As Deputy Director, Adult Social Service Policy I led the development of many new policies and had a significant role in the development of a number of social services strategies and legislation. I have also worked extensively with local government, the NHS and third and private sectors. I have an MSc in Gerontology from Swansea University. I have a Public Appointment for four years to the Commissioner for Older People’s Audit and Risk Assurance Committee. I am also member of her Expert Panel on Human Rights for Older People. From a charitable perspective, I am  also heavily involved as a representative of older people as a Trustee at Age Cymru and at Cymru Older People's Alliance and the vice chair of Caerphilly 50+Forum. I am a member of the Welsh Government's Ministerial Advisory Forum on Ageing.
