Citizen Jury Style Focus Groups
Building on our experience of running the National Social Services Citizen Panel, other regional citizen panels and Experts by Experience projects, we set up three citizen jury style focus groups on behalf of the Welsh Government (two for adults and one for children and young people).
In addition to recruiting a wide range of citizens, we developed an invitation and agenda to ensure diverse representation within each focus group and that relevant outcomes were achieved.
In order to support the engagement process with citizens, we prepared background papers and other relevant material to aid their understanding of the proposed new models of care.
We also provided facilitation support during the focus groups to ensure that people could share their views in response to the subject of the discussion. A lead facilitator was present at each meeting to manage the agenda and engage with citizens regarding their experiences while an additional “subject” facilitator with expertise in the field of health and social care delivery managed the discussion with participants.
On completion of each focus group, the lead facilitator developed a written report that encapsulated the panel’s perspectives and experiences in relation to the proposed new models of care.
