Human Rights
Aim:
To ensure staff understand and are able to exercise their responsibilities relating to Equalities/Human Rights legislation
Learning Outcomes:
The course will enable participants to:
- Explain the key elements of and reasons for legislation in relation to human rights
- Explain how human rights legislation impacts on specific roles and responsibilities
- Detail the rights of service users and the steps to take if these rights are not respected
The Law and Community Care
Aim:
To provide an overview of community care law (legislation, guidance and case-law) as it relates to assessments, provision of community care and charging for services.
Learning Outcomes:
The course will enable participants to:
- Explain the range of community care law relating assessment and provision of services to adults
- Feel more confident to engage with statutory services in order to provide advocacy, support and advice to people with learning disabilities
- Understand the remedies available in the event of a public body acting unlawfully
Eligibility, Risk and Community Care – Fair Access to Care Services
Aim:
To explore legislation, guidance and processes relating to community care
Learning Outcomes:
The course will enable participants to:
- Explain the concepts and theory behind Fair Access to Care Services (FACS) including rationing of resources
- Explain the importance of service user involvement in risk assessment
- Apply the eligibility criteria to decisions about care services
- Explain the difference between outputs and outcomes in social care
Risk Assessment – Independence and Choice
Aim:
To ensure that risk assessment informs decision making and does not prevent vulnerable people living their lives to the fullest extent possible
Learning Outcomes:
The course will enable participants to:
- Differentiate between hazard & risk
- Explore the consequences of action and the likelihood of harm
- Examine a set of principles for supporting people in making decisions and managing risk
- Explore the relationship between choice and risk
- Highlight the need for a balanced approach to risk so rights are not compromised
Improving Outcomes for Service Users
Aim:
To applying an outcome approach to assessment, care management and delivery of services to vulnerable people
Learning Outcomes:
The course will enable participants to:
- Explain the link between care planning ‘outcomes’ and ‘quality of life’.
- Work in ways which overcome factors which hinder an outcomes approach to planning and service delivery
- Explain the benefits of outcome focused activity to those who use and provide services
- Involve service users and their carers in an outcome approach to service delivery
- Identify outcome performance measures to insure the person’s quality of life is fully supported and maintained
Outcomes Focussed Assessment
Aim:
Apply the principles of outcome planning and integrate an outcomes approach within the Assessment Process
Learning Outcomes:
The course will enable participants to:
- Explore the concepts and theory behind outcome focused assessments
- Equip staff with the skills and knowledge to allow them to develop an outcomes approach to assessments for social care
- Help staff move to a person centred approach to social care.
